Halotherapy
The only salt inhaler with controlled emission of aerosols for the treatment of respiratory diseases.

Halotherapy ("halos" being the Greek name for salt)is a therapy based on the use of dry salt aerosols use in treating respiratory diseases.

History
The benefits of salt therapy in respiratory diseases have been well documented and were first mentioned centuries ago by Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine. Thus, in the treatment of asthma, allergies and other respiratory diseases it was recommended to inhale a mixture of water and salt vapors or salt air at the seaside or ocean shore.

Speleotherapy (therapy within salt mines)
has been a recognised therapy, in use for many years. First described in 1843, the therapy relies on spending time in a salt mine to breathe the salt enriched air and it is a technique still used to this day. Benefits of speolotherapy result from the inhalation of dry salt aerosols and their action is enhanced by the favourable ambient temperature, humidity, low microbial load and lack in allergens specific for this environment.

Artificial caves
Halotherapy chambers with artificial salt-mine environments were developed to increase access to the saline therapy and to overcome the drawbacks of staying in a natural salt mine for extended periods of time. These drawbacks included, microclimatic differences in temperature, air pressure or humidity and simply the logistics of travel to, and staying in, an underground mine for long periods of time.

Modern Halotherapy devices
lopment of portable saline inhaler devices able to produce dry salt aerosols almost anywhere represented an important step forward in the field of Halotherapy. For example, chamber devices as Salin® Air Purifier work by passing air constantly through a filter containing micro-crystalline salts which create a fine, constant spray of sodium chloride in the surrounding atmosphere.
SaltMed, the only salt inhaler with controlled emission of dry salt aerosols, belongs to a new generation of portable devices which can be used for both home and hospital use (i.e. inpatient and outpatient use).
The dry salt inhaler SaltMed through its innovative production of dry salt particles has been proven to be an effective treatment in respiratory disease.

SaltMed offers a complimentary drug-free therapy in a variety of acute and chronic respiratory diseases of varying infectious or allergic etiology:
-upper respiratory tract diseases: allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, otitis, tonsillitis, etc
-lower respiratory tract diseases: bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, bronchitis, bronchiolitis, etc
